Treasurer (Voluntary Position) – Museum Ethnographers Group (MEG)

Application deadline (Ongoing)

The Museum Ethnographers Group is seeking a committed and detail‑oriented Treasurer to join its Committee and support the financial stewardship of the organisation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about museum ethnography, ethical practice, and strengthening a vibrant professional community. The current Treasurer’s term is coming to an end in April 2027, we therefore hope that any prospective applicant could both shadow and undertake some of the role up until that date.

What You’ll Do

As Treasurer, you will oversee MEG’s financial operations and help ensure the organisation’s long‑term sustainability. Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining accurate accounts, reconciling income and expenditure, and preparing annual financial reports.
  • Working with the Committee to set and monitor budgets for MEG’s activities.
  • Overseeing payments from individual members and managing all financial aspects of institutional membership, including renewals and invoicing.
  • Assisting with financial planning for MEG’s annual conference and other events.
  • Providing clear financial updates and advising on the implications of proposed initiatives.

What You Bring

We welcome applicants from across museums, heritage, academia, and related sectors. You don’t need to be a finance expert — just confident with numbers, organised, and ready to learn.

Time Commitment

Approximately 3–5 hours per month, with additional time around the annual conference and year‑end reporting. Committee meetings take place quarterly (online or in person).

Why Join MEG?

MEG is a supportive, engaged community dedicated to advancing dialogue, research, and best practice in museum ethnography. As Treasurer, you’ll play a vital role in sustaining this work — ensuring MEG can continue offering events, publications, and professional support to its members, including its growing network of institutional partners.
